Some weddings have a moment that no one sees coming—and this one took that to a whole new level. After a beautiful ceremony in the light-filled chapel at La Petite Chapelle in Innerkip, Ontario, guests headed downstairs for cocktail hour. When they returned for the reception, jaws dropped: the groom had cut his hair between the ceremony and reception.

That’s right—after years of long locks, he snuck away during cocktail hour and returned with a brand-new look, surprising everyone (including a few stunned family members!). It was one of those unforgettable moments that perfectly captured the fun and energy of this day.

La Petite Chapelle is a small-town venue with serious charm. Originally a historic church, it’s been lovingly restored and updated to feel fresh, bright, and airy—an ideal setting for photography. The chapel’s natural light is beautifully balanced, making it easy to shoot without any flash, and the white walls and soft wood tones give every photo a clean, timeless feel.

The bride got ready right on site before sharing an emotional first look with her groom inside the chapel. That space, with its elegant simplicity and beautiful symmetry, made the perfect backdrop for those first few quiet moments together.

Although the property isn’t large, it’s full of photo opportunities. The yard worked beautifully for family photos, and a nearby metal storage building turned out to be a hidden gem—its clean lines and soft, directional light made for some standout creative portraits.

The ceremony and reception were both held in the main chapel space, with cocktail hour happening downstairs while we took family photos outside. Dustin from Skyline Studios kept the energy high during the reception, getting everyone on the dance floor to celebrate—and maybe do a double take at the groom’s fresh new look.

La Petite Chapelle might be hidden away in the small community of Innerkip, but this wedding proved it’s a venue with big impact. And while the day was full of beauty, laughter, and heartfelt moments, it’s safe to say the groom’s post-ceremony haircut was the surprise no one will ever forget.
